Most tears occur around the outer edges of the mat. The carpet does not extend to the edge of the mat. Before applying a patch, the Build-Up-Bar is placed under the uncarpeted area in order to achieve a more consistent pressure over the patch when clamped. When patching a corner, two Build-Up-Bars are required.
